What are your adoption fees and what do they cover?
Our adoption fees are: $150 for puppies and dogs, $100 for seniors, and $75 for cats. Fees include spay or neuter if arranged thru CAWL, and all age-appropriate vaccinations. We do reserve the right to change these fees for a specific animal at any time.
How do I adopt from CAWL?
We have a 3 step adoption process which must be completed before we place any of our dogs.
We require :
- A completed application. (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)
- A phone interview.
- A meet and greet with our CAWL pet and your family, including the pets in the family. We want to find the right home for our dogs and cats, and we want to find the right pet for your family.
Why is this pet in rescue? What’s the matter with it?
People who aren’t familiar with rescues often think that the pet is in rescue because of something “wrong” with it. This is especially the case when it’s a beautiful purebred or a puppy. The potential first time adopter will think there must be some awful thing about the dog, but it’s not the dog, it’s the (former) owner.
What is your vetting policy?
Spay or neuter for pets over 5 months old will be done prior to the pet’s adoption, and included in the price of the adoption fee. If a puppy or kitten is too young to be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, the adoption fee includes the price of the surgery if arranged thru CAWL. We do require a spay/neuter deposit of $100 for our non-sterilized animals to be held by CAWL and returned to you once the spay/neuter surgery has taken place.
Your pet will also have received all age-appropriate vaccinations as designated by our veterinarian.
What is your return and refund policy?
CAWL requires that all previously adopted CAWL dogs that must be surrendered are returned to CAWL. CAWL will give a full refund on any dog returned within 14 days if the dog is found to have any health problems except parasites. After 14 days, no refund will be given, but CAWL dogs will always be accepted back into CAWL.
Do you need volunteers?
YES! We always need volunteers! Please visit our Volunteer section to find out more and to fill out a volunteer application.
I can’t adopt now-how can I help?
You can volunteer to foster! We always need foster homes, and when you foster one dog, you save the lives of THREE DOGS: the dog you’re fostering, the dog who is in a kill shelter who can now be taken into CAWL and you open up another space in a shelter for the next dog. When you consider that 56% of dogs who enter shelters are euthanized, it’s easy to see how important fostering is!
When you foster a cat or a litter of kittens, there’s just no telling how many lives you’re saving. 71% of cats in shelters are euthanized.
You can also volunteer to work at adoption events! You can help our great pets find their forever homes. We also need help with local and long-distance transport.
Of course, if you have more money than time, 100% of your contributions go to help save, feed and care for CAWL pets. We are an ALL VOLUNTEER rescue, and none of us receive any financial support or incentives for our work. You can visit our donation page to make a cash donation or contact us at 720-515-CAWL to make a food or supplies donation. Please consider visiting our wish list to find what supplies we can always use.
What are your puppy & kitten adoption rules?
We have found that puppies from the same litter tend to bond to one another, to their detriment, when adopted together. Therefore, we do not adopt out two puppies from the same litter to the same adopter.
** The general guideline is that puppies may be left alone, for no longer in hours than the number of months of their ages. Please do not apply for a young puppy if you intend to be gone all day. **
Kittens are also to be kept inside as “indoor kittens only”. Once they’re adults, they won’t need to go outside, nor will they want to explore the great outdoors. Outdoor cats have significantly shorter lifespans than indoor cats, and then there are all the bird lives saved by keeping your cat indoors!
Where can I go to see your dogs?
We DO NOT have a physical location, as all of our dogs are fostered in individual homes. Once you’ve had your phone interview, we will arrange to have you meet the dog or cat of your dreams. We also bring our dogs to adoption events, so it’s possible to see the dogs in person without having selected a specific dog. Please visit our Events Calendar for more information on our upcoming events.
