Potcake Rescue

Operation Potcake Puppy Lift

CAWL, in conjunction with several other rescues and shelters in the Denver area, is working with the Potcake Rescue of Grand Bahama (https://potcakerescue.com) to save over 70 potcake dogs by airlifting them from the Humane Society of Grand Bahama (HSGB) to Denver to find them their forever homes. The HSGB typically has very low adoption rates so getting these dogs flown to the United States is imperative to finding them homes and saving their lives. "Potcake" is the Bahamian term for the thick, leftover food that remains in the bottom of a pot of peas 'n rice after several reheatings. Traditionally, Bahamians fed potcake to the outdoor, indigenous dogs that freely populated the Bahamas. Hence the dogs have come to be known as Potcakes. They are also referred to as the "Island Dogs." Flying 70 dogs from Grand Bahama to Denver is a massive undertaking and will be expensive and logistically challenging. Please consider donating to assist CAWL in transporting the potcakes to Denver. The potcakes will arrive April 20. Watch our website and Facebook pages for more information about Operation Potcake Rescue and the amazing dogs that will be available for adoption.
